Eminent panelists from who’s who of Business World graced the occasion - Mr. Prasada Rao, Chairman, BHEL; Mr. Ravneet Gill, MD, Deustche Bank; Mr. Lamon Rutten, MD & CEO, MCX India, Mr. Vaidyanathan, Vice Chairman, Future Capital Holdings Ltd. Mr. Adi Godrej, Chairman, Godrej Group and Chairman NITIE Board of Governors was the Chief Guest of the event.
Dr. Subhash D. Awale, Director, NITIE opened the proceedings with his inspiring speech and encouraged the students to learn proactively from the speakers at the occasion. His speech set the tone for the session. Mr. Prasada Rao spoke mainly about how BHEL has been evolving its strategies over the past decades by looking at the external environment. He also mentioned about the growing importance of R&D for BHEL in coming years. Mr. Ravneet Gill stressed on the importance of flat organization structure in current times in order to deal with crisis. Mr. Lamon Rutten gave a totally different perspective by quoting that leadership is not about managing the crisis rather it is about preventing a crisis from happening. He said, “Don’t think about the goal; rather think about the process of how to get there”. Lastly, Mr. Vaidyanathan took the podium and shared his reflections on how we need to get over the past and get on with the necessities for future growth. He said “Statistics don’t run business" and therefore one must have a positive outlook.
Finally, the most distinguished guest of the evening Mr. Adi Godrej enlightened the audience based on his experiences and learning from the recession times. Focal point of his talk was to address the latent need of customers who are exposed to the fast pace of information. So companies should not just focus on where their customers are but also where they will be in future. According to him, constant product innovations will cater to the ever changing needs of customers which in turn will act as a catalyst for the formation of a sustainable high growth developed economy.
The event ended with a brief Q & A session followed by the vote of thanks by Prof. Ashok K Pundir, Associate Dean of Placements, NITIE. All in all, the event was truly an amazing one leaving the audience spellbound.
