Welingkar to host Gram Sabha 2010 – management at the grassroots

Welingkar Institute of management development & research will hold a one of its kind event aimed at interacting with grass root level players, discussing and bringing out the issues relevant to development and management for sustainable growth on the 4-5th of February 2010. The event will have several panel discussions being addressed by industry experts.

Rural management and development plans go hand in hand. Rural development has always been the prime target of our government since independence. All five year plans were focused towards special benefits for the rural community. Some of the objectives have been achieved and others failed but the efforts for further development has never ceased.

There is a greater urgency and need for managerial input in rural India. The actors in the management process are the people inhabiting the rural areas, and no long term plan can be pursued without their willingness, collaboration and participation.

In today’s era of liberalization and globalization management education is playing a key role in systematizing various activities in business environment. There is a greater need now for a culture specific and customized management education that takes into account the socio-economic factors influencing decision making.

The event will cover discussions over the below mentioned issues spread across the span of two days:

  • Education & innovation at grassroots – problems existing with implementing the educational reforms in rural areas, long term effects of lack of basic education. Best ways to impart education so that innovative thinking can be incorporated right from school and the need to introduce best ways of using multimedia to fill gaps of getting quality teachers.
  • Energy & sustainability - management of energy needs and providing sustainable solutions.
  • Healthcare -  providing quality healthcare at the grassroots
  • The business of agro products - issues of marketing agro products from rural areas.
  • Entrepreneurship at grassroots - culture specific and customized entrepreneurial education.
  • Role of IT in rural development - emergence of new technology for enhancing competitiveness of rural India.
  • Rural finance - finance for sustainable development in rural area.
