Summer has sprung upon us with nary a warning; subtle, vehement or otherwise. It is time to lather on the sun tan, don the straw hat and top up the martini!
Inside the summer closet
This season is all about luxe. An emerging trend, one that has been palpable for a while now in myriad ways, is the 70s glamour. There were two things about this era – one, a sense of bohemia and the other, sophisticated glamour. With both, there was an underlying defiant independence that is key to present day trends. So whether it’s the floppy hat, the sky-high platforms or the jewels exotica, you’ve got boldness at its best. A day time look would be all about clean yet voluminous silhouettes. High-waisted wide legged pants or flares that were crisply belted in teamed with billowy blouses, neat bow blouses with bishop sleeves. These tops would look perfect in satin or silk. Lace dresses that are romantic but not over-girly and sensual but not over-suggestive are perfect for the night look. Long, slinky gowns that have draping, low necklines and interesting slits reek of glamour all the way.
Accessorize, Accessorize and Accessorize

The most popular accessory and a must-have in this season are sun glasses. Get a new and on-trend style but it must suit your face cut. So while the cat-eye sun glasses are very popular, if it does not look good on your face, please abandon it. The right handbag and the right pair of shoes complete any look. Leather satchels or long sling purses are uber chic this season. Team the leather satchel with a demure lace dress to create a contrasting look. Strings of beads, long pendant necklaces, lots of bangles and bold stones is the way to go when it comes to jewellery. The belt purse, a small pouch or purse that is strapped around the waist or hips, has made a comeback but with a twist. The pouch can be a separate accessory and can be interchanged to different belts. It can be teamed with flare pants or even a long flowing maxi dress. With a clean cut cocktail dress, it is perfect to hold a lipstick and a credit card.
Beautiful summery you

This season is about strong cuts and colours. It is all about revivals. So, get out there and get something new. Fringes and bangs are popular looks. For those with long hair, the season’s trendy looks are the double hair knot, braided top knot, the bird’s nest bun and the messy plait. A waved bob for those who want to go short with or without fringes and bangs will look great. The pixie crop cut is also a famous style for this season. Choose a hair colour that suits you. Not one that everyone is sporting. The colour chosen should suit your complexion. It’s important. Makeup is also about keeping it simple. Given the soaring temperatures, the last thing one wants is their makeup to run down their face. Keep it in the nudes. Lot of sheer, lot of gloss, bright cheeks and smoky eyes are also part of this trend.
Shoe it up

The most popular and most comfortable footwear in this season are the flip flops. Easy to put on with breathability, flip flops come in tons of patterns, designs and colours. For those who like being a little above ground level, wedges and kitten heels are extremely trendy currently. Both these styles work well with dresses. The kitten heels are more comfortable that their higher counterparts. Kitten heels can work best when dainty, pointed, retro or minimalistic.
Summer is here to stay for a while. So, pick out your trends and make a splash!
