Incorporated in Sep.'92 Altos India Ltd (AIL) was promoted by a group of technocrats led by Dadan Bhai, and went public in Jun.'83. AIL is originally engaged in the assembly and sale of computers, the company now manufactures personal computers (PCs), PCXTs, PCAT286, PCAT386, PCAT486 and engineering workstations. Its manufacturing facility is located in the Okhla industrial area, New Delhi. It also manufactures motherboards and system boards at its plant (cap. : 220,000 units) at Udyog Vihar in Gurgaon, Haryana.
Its maiden public issue in 1991 was followed by a rights issue in 1995. In the domestic market, the company's products are marketed by Pertech Computers.
The company has technical collaborations with Brother, Japan, and Sun Microsystems, Sparc, MIPS Computer Corporation and Dell Computer Corporation, all of the US. It exports its products to the US and Russia.
During the year 1995-96, it earned an foreign exchange of Rs 160.64 crores.
