Promoted as an associate sector project by A M Ebrahim and Associates and the Electronics Corporation of Tamilnadu (ELCOT) for the manufacture of mechanical contract key switches and computer key boards, Armaan Electric was incorporated in 1989.
The company's plant is located at Gummidipoondi, Tamilnadu. The plant was set up in technical collaboration wit Alps Electric, Japan. Commercial production commenced in Apr.'91.
The company which commenced with the production of key switches, sensing the slump in the market for key switches due to various factors, started to concentrate more on key boards. It started the manufacture of keyboards from Aug.'91 itself.
In 1994, the company received orders from Wipro for the manufacture of computer monitors. It undertook an expansion-cum-diversification rogramme to install certain production and auxillary equipment to increase the existing capacity of key switches and also for the manufacture of computer monitors. It came out with a public issue in Mar.'95, to part-finance the project.
