A 100% EOU, Digiflex (India) began operations in 1991 with an annual capacity of 60 mln latex examination gloves. It entered the capital market in Jul.'93 to expand its manufacturing capacity to 240 mln gloves pa (cost: Rs 6.39 cr). The first line of the second plant was successfully commissioned in 1994-95. The remaining phase of the expansion is expected to be complete soon.
In 1993, it entered into a financial collaboration with Cypress Medical Products, US (which is picking up equity worth Rs 45 lac), to supply 96 mln gloves pa for five years from the date of commercial production of the expanded capacity. Digiflex plans to tap the lucrative Latin American market as well and step up exports to the EEC.
It plans to open a facility to centrifuge latex rubber for the manufacture of latex gloves. This backward integration will increase the manufacturing capacity as well as reduce dependence on imports.
