Formed in Nov.'65 as a joint-venture between Mahindra & Mahindra and Vickers, US, Vickers Systems International (VSI) is now a fully-owned subsidiary of Trinora Corporation, US. The company is renowned for its sophisticated fluid power components and motion control. The VSI product range has applications in industries such as plastics and rubber processing, machine tools, steel plants, heavy engineering, agricultural equipment, construction and transportation machinery, mining and Defence-oriented industries.
With the constant support of Vickers, US, the VSI manufacturing facilities at Kandivli, Bombay, and Pimpri, Pune are able to offer new-generation products to the Indian user. The company has established itself as a supplier to Vickers Associate Company, Japan, and has been awarded the ISO 9001 quality certificate for its marketing operations and for its plant at Kandivli.
In 1995-96, the company received an order backlog of Rs 21.80 lacs including a large contract of Rs 6.50 lacs for design and supply of hydraulic systems for a slab caster line to be installed at Bokaro steel. During the same year, the lock-out at Pimpri facility caused production/sales loss for the company for nearly four months.
During 1996-97, the company received support from its collaborators M/s Vickers Inc. USA in the form of subscription to the preferential issue of equity shares at a premium of Rs 50/- per share.
