Incorporated as a private limited company in 1988 by a technical and financial collaboration agreement between Sesa Goa and STET of the IRI Group, Italy, the sixth largest Fortune 500 corporation, Sesa Seat Information Systems Limited changed its name to Indiacom Directories Ltd (IDL) in September 1999, is active in the field of publication of telephone directories with Yellow Pages and handles the largest number of telecom contracts in the country. DoT is the main client of the company.
In addition to the Yellow Pages, it has successfully launched business directories for the western and southern India. In 1994, the company offered for sale 4,65,000 equity shares of Rs 10 face value at a premium of Rs 24 each to public through the offerers, J M Financial and Investment Consultancy Services (JMFICSL) and J M Shares and Stock Brokers (JMSSB), to get listed in the OTCEI. After the issue, the promoters hold 55% of the equity capital of the company.
In 1994-95, the company added telephone directory with Yellow Pages contracts for Ahmedabad and Rajkot telecom districts and in 1995-96, it added Kheda district contract, which further consolidated its position in Gujarat. The company's future plans includes expanding its operations in a phased manner by undertaking the publication of telephone directory with yellow pages, stand alone yellow pages, tourist guides in both print and electronic media.
To strengthen the database and back end archiecture the company has commercially launched its own website viz www.IndiaReference.com in 2001-02.
