Jay Agrochem was incorporated on 13 Dec.'88 as Jay Smelting and changed its name in 1993, when it became a public limited company. It has been promoted by Jitendra Bhatt, Bharat Pandya and Anil Pandya. The company is engaged in the manufacture of copper and sulphate, nickel sulphate, sodium formaldehyde sulfoxilate, zinc formal-dehyde sulfoxilate and zinc hydroxide.
Copper sulphate has various industrial applications -- in zinc ore dressing, in agriculture as soil additives/pesticides, manufacture of paints, etc.
Nickel sulphate is mainly used in electro plating of nickel, manufacturing of nickel catalyst, used for hydrogenation of vanaspati and in the manufacture of other vitamins / pharmaceuticals / chemicals, in dyeing and printing as mordant, etc. Its major consumer is Hindustan Lever.
The company exported 5 mt of copper sulphate to Indonesia and 40 mt to New Zealand in 1994-95. It has plans to diversifiy into value-added products like copper oxychloride, copper cathodes, and liquid sulphur dioxide gas.
It is also considering generation of energy with wind farms.
