Incorporated as Steelsworth International Pvt Ltd in Jun.'80, Kemwell International (KIL) was renamed as Milli Tech Pvt Ltd in 1985. The name was again changed as Kemwell International Pvt Ltd in 1988. The company became a public limited company in Nov.'94.
The company started manufacturing engineering products and discontinued it during 1990. It started a 100% EOU at Peenya, Bangalore, to manufacture latex gloves in 1989. Since the establishment of the unit, the company gradually increased its production. The company also has a division generating agricultural income by way of cultivating and selling flowers in the factory premises.
KIL is also exporting surgical gloves to the high-quality markets of The Netherlands, Germany, France, UK, Italy, the US, Middle-East, Africa and South America.
In 1995, the company embarked on an expansion programme to increase the capacity of its 100% EOU from 36 mln pcs pa to 108 mln pcs pa, in two phases. It came out with a public issue in May '95 to part-finance the project. In 1995-96, the company set up a sales office at Hamburg, Germany. It also received the ISO 9002 certification from KPMG Quality Registrars.
The company expansion by adding Unit-II to 144 million pcs from 36 million pcs was completed during 1997-98.
During 1998-99, The Company signed a joint venture agreement with Ansell (a leading company in medical gloves), a division of Pacific Dunlop Ltd, Australia.
