Transpower Engineering (TEL) was incorporated in 1977. It is promoted by the Rs 250-cr REPL group. Homi R Patel is the chairman and Rajan Desai is the director. TEL is engaged in manufacturing and marketing of transmission line towers. Its major clients include the Power Grid Corporation of India, Punjab and Himachal Pradesh SEBs.
The company came out with a public issue of 7.07 lac equity shares at a price of Rs 34.50 per share aggregating Rs 2.44 cr. The company exports to Algeria, Egypt, Libya, Sudan, etc. TEL has bagged an order valued at Rs 27 cr from Cobra, Spain, for the supply of 12,000 tonnes of fabricated steel tower for setting up a 800-kV single circuit Kishenpur-Mogra transmission line. TEL has drawn ambitious plans for the expansion and modernisation of its current facilities. The proposed capacity after expansion will be 36,000 tonnes.
During the year 1996-97, it earned foreign exchange to the tune of Rs. 4.49 crores.
The company has filed a reference under SICA with BIFR and the management is hopeful of revival of the company.
