Australian new home sales rose a seasonally-adjusted 6.9% in April from March, but overall activity in the industry suggests it's heading into a recession-style environment this year, the Housing Industry Association said Tuesday.
The policy-making board of the RBA next meets June 5.
Detached house sales rose by 6.4% while multi-unit sales were up by 10.3% in April from March, the survey of Australia's 100 largest builders showed.
Detached house sales increased by 17.2% in Victoria ahead of the removal of government assistance for first home buyers, it said. Detached house sales increased 9.8% in Western Australia, rose 1.8% in New South Wales, fell 5.9% in South Australia and fell 5.5% in Queensland.
