Padma Bhushan Dr Ramdas Pai, Chairman - Manipal Education and Medical Group has been awarded the Golden Peacock Lifetime Achievement Award for the Year 2011 by the Institute of Directors, an apex organization of company directors in India. Honourable Dr. M. Veerappa Moily, Union Minister of Corporate Affairs handed over the award to him in the presence of Hon. Justice MN Venkatachalaiah, former Chief Justice of India, Dr. Ola Ullsten, former Prime Minister of Sweden and The Rt. Hon'ble Baroness Sandip Verma, Lords Minister for British Government (UK) at the 22nd World Congress on Total Quality held in Bangalore the last week.
Dr. Ramdas M Pai received this award for his immense contributions in the fields of education and healthcare. Receiving the award, he attributed the success to the efforts of the entire Manipal family.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Ramdas Pai said, “I have received the Award as a representative of the entire Manipal Team, who have together put in their efforts to make the Manipal Group a vibrant Unit in the fields of education and healthcare. This Award will certainly provide the impetus to the Manipal Team to strive for more achievements. I am happy to report that in Manipal district, where our healthcare team is working on the various health indices, we are on par with the developed countries. While I am thrilled at the recognition given to our Team’s contribution to the expansion of education and healthcare facilities, it shall be our mission to continue this humanitarian work with greater zeal in the days to come.”
Dr. Pai has been at the helm of the Manipal Education and Medical Group for over three decades and has played a key role in transforming the Group into a leading player in the Healthcare and Education sector. He is the Chancellor of Manipal University and the Pro Chancellor of the Sikkim Manipal University in Gangtok. He is also a member of the Executive Council of Assam University.
In terms of providing quality medical care, Dr. Pai’s leadership has shaped the Group’s future by expanding from a single Manipal Hospital in Bangalore in 1991 to a multi-location chain of eleven hospitals across seven cities in South India, and rated amongst the best in the country.
