The Indian Chamber of Commerce honoured Mahendra Agarwal, Founder & CEO, Gati Ltd with the prestigious ‘Executive of the Year’ Award 2012 (Logistics) for his Contribution to the Indian Supply Chain & Logistics Industry at the Awards function held in New Delhi on February 8, 2012 .
Agarwal established Gati in 1989 with an aim to revolutionize the logistics industry. Gati is the pioneer in the Express Distribution and Supply Chain Solutions in India. Agarwal has to his credit many firsts that he has introduced / contributed to the Indian logistic Industry.
Some of his major industry contributions:
1989-95
- First to introduce Door- to-Door Pickup and Delivery service delivery with a money back guarantee for delay in delivering shipments.
- Cash on Delivery
- Launched the concept of Call Free number for customer service
- Introduced the concept of 3rd party logistics (3PL)
- First Logistic company to receive the ISO 9001 Quality certification
2001 -2008
- Gati Millennium Parcel Express - First exclusive Cargo Train between Mumbai and Kolkata in association with Indian Railways
- Migrated the operations to the first of its kind web-based solution – Gati Enterprise Management Systems (GEMS)
- Launched Centralized Call Centre at Nagpur
- Launched real time shipment tracking solution
2008 Till date
- Launched the Gati Academy
- Introduced SQS (Service Quality Standardization)
- Ventured into E commerce – Makemygiftz.com among others
In June 2008, he was awarded “Best Entrepreneur of the Year” by Hyderabad Management Association. He also received the “Lifetime Achievement Award” at the 4th Express Logistics & Supply Chain Conclave on 30th Sep 2010 at Mumbai.
