The Government has reportedly appointed former IMF chief economist Raghuram Rajan as its top adviser at the Union Finance Ministry. The Appointments Committee of Cabinet has cleared the appointment of Rajan as the new CEA on Thursday, according to media reports.
"The order has been issued to appoint Raghuram Rajan as chief economic adviser," a senior government official was quoted as saying.
The position of the CEA has been lying vacant since Kaushik Basu's term ended on July 31.
Rajan currently teaches at University of Chicago's Booth School of Business.
An alumni of IIM-Ahmedabad and IIT-Delhi, Rajan did is doctorate from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).
