Hero MotoCorp drops after weak July sales

Hero MotoCorp fell 0.58% to Rs 1,955.95 at 11:53 IST on BSE, with the stock extending Thursday's 0.21% fall triggered by the company reporting decline in July sales.

Meanwhile, the BSE Sensex was down 169.30 points or 0.98% to 17,055.06.

On BSE, 11,000 shares were traded in the counter as against average daily volume of 52,142 shares in the past one quarter.

The stock hit a high of Rs 1,974.20 and a low of Rs 1,951 so far during the day. The stock had hit a 52-week low of Rs 1,702.65 on 9 January 2012. The stock had hit a record high of Rs 2,278.50 on 2 May 2012.

The stock had underperformed the market over the past one month till 2 August 2012, falling 6.95% compared with the Sensex's 1% fall. The scrip had also underperformed the market in past one quarter, sliding 12.37% as against Sensex's 0.45% fall.

India's largest bike maker by sales has equity capital of Rs 39.94 crore. Face value per share is Rs 2.

The Hero MotoCorp (HMCL) stock has fallen 0.78% in two trading sessions from Rs 1,971.50 on Wednesday, 1 August 2012, after the company after trading hours on Wednesday, 1 August 2012 said its total sales declined 1.38% to 4.84 lakh units in July 2012 over July 2011. The stock had fallen 0.21% to settle at Rs 1,967.35 on Thursday, 2 August 2012.

HMCL said its new scooter 110cc Maestro has already been contributing handsome volumes. Maestro, along with the Pleasure, has further strengthened the company's strong presence in the scooter segment, company said.

Commenting on the July sales, Mr. Anil Dua, Senior Vice-President (Marketing & Sales), Hero MotoCorp said, The two-wheeler industry in the country has been experiencing sluggish growth for past few months. We are strengthening our brand and saliency in midst of a challenging environment where a patchy monsoon, rising petrol prices and high interest rates have been affecting retail sales in both rural and urban markets. Our brand and models are salient on the current bilateral cricket series and Olympics. We continue to launch new models, air new campaigns and expand our network as we look forward to the commencement of the festive season with cautious optimism.

HMCL's net profit rose 10.3% to Rs 615.46 crore on 10.1% growth in net sales to Rs 6207.78 crore in Q1 June 2012 over Q1 June 2011.

Hero MotoCorp is the world's largest two-wheeler manufacturer in terms of production capacity.
