Hyundai, Kia recall 1.9m vehicles in US

It is recalling certain models of Accent, Tucson, Elantra, Santa Fe, Veracruz, Genesis Coupe, and Sonata ranging from 2007 to 2011.

Hyundai and Kia are recalling nearly 1.9 million vehicles in the United States to fix brake lights and airbags. The South Korean automakers are recalling models manufactured between 2007 and 2011, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said.

Hyundai Motor Company is recalling nearly one million vehicles to fix a faulty stop-light switch. The malfunction, the company said, may prevent brake lights from illuminating when the pedal is depressed. It is recalling certain models of Accent, Tucson, Elantra, Santa Fe, Veracruz, Genesis Coupe, and Sonata ranging from 2007 to 2011.

Hyundai affiliate, Kia Motors Corporation, is recalling models Rondo and Sportage manufactured between 2007 and 2010, Sorento models of 2007-2011,  Sedona 2007, Soul 2010-2011, and Optima  2011 -- to fix the brake light switch.

Hyundai is also recalling certain Elantra models built between 2011 and 2013 to fix an airbag support bracket. It fears the bracket may get displaced when a side airbag deploys, causing a laceration injury.
