IFCI leads gainers in 'A' group

Power Finance Corporation, Crompton Greaves, Rural Electrification Corporation and Jindal Steel & Power are among the other gainers

IFCI galloped 8.55% to Rs 31.10. The stock topped the gainers in the BSE's 'A' group. The stock outperformed the market over the past one month till 31 January 2012, rising 31.12% compared with Sensex's 11.25% return. The scrip, however, underperformed the market over the past one quarter, sliding 13.05% as against Sensex's 2.89% fall.

Power Finance Corporation surged 8.54% to Rs 184.20 and was the second biggest gainer in 'A' group. Power Finance Corporation will announce its Q3 results on Friday, 3 February 2012. The stock outperformed the market over the past one month till 31 January 2012, rising 23.37% compared with Sensex's 11.25% return. The scrip had also outperformed the market over the past one quarter, gaining 13.10% as against Sensex's 2.89% fall.

‎Crompton Greaves advanced 8.07% to Rs 143.95 and was the third biggest gainer in 'A' group. The stock ended flat on Tuesday, 31 January 2012. At the fag end of the day's trading session on Tuesday, 31 January 2012, the company reported 66.9% fall in net profit to Rs 77.14 crore on 26.3% rise in total sales to Rs 3027.95 crore in Q3 December 2011 over Q3 December 2010.

Rural Electrification Corporation gained 7.17% to Rs 203.95 and was fourth biggest gainer in 'A' group. The stock outperformed the market over the past one month till 31 January 2012, rising 23.97% compared with Sensex's 11.25% return. The scrip had also outperformed the market over the past one quarter, gaining 5.72% as against Sensex's 2.89% fall.

Jindal Steel & Power rose 6.43% to Rs 577.15 on BSE on reports the company is looking to buy a majority stake in Gopalpur Ports to foray into the ports sector. As per reports, Jindal Steel & Power is set to buy a majority 60% stake for an undisclosed sum in Gopalpur Ports, the company building a new port at Gopalpur in Orissa. The company is looking for a maritime gateway to ship the raw materials required for its steel and power plant coming up in Orissa. It was fifth biggest gainer in 'A' group.
