The Union Ministry of Urban Development and WBHIDCO Government of West Bengal organised a meeting in New Delhi for creation of an international financial hub in New Town, Kolkata, West Bengal.
The meeting was chaired by Minister of State, Urban Development, Prof. Saugata Roy and Shri Firhad Hakim, Minister in charge of Urban Development and Municipal Affairs, Government of West Bengal.
The meeting sought to initiate the creation of a financial cluster for various financial activities like banking, insurance, mutual funds, offshore banking investments and debt, by setting up a financial hub at New Town Kolkata. The proposed hub would serve as a great source of employment and generate investment capability. The hub would have facilities for data warehousing, disaster recovery, back up office and IT BPO centres, in collaboration with township Infrastructure, Human Resources, IT and Telecommunications.
The day-long meeting was attended by a large number of public and private sector banks and financial services companies. Dr. Sudhir Krishna, Secretary, Urban Development Ministry was also present on this occasion.
