Tata Motors, a leading automobile company in India, has signed three-year MoU with one of the leading skill development and training company Laurus Edutech to train the youth to drive commercial vehicles.
Under this agreement, Laurus Edutech will set up professional driving schools at regional level offering quality training and certification of drivers for HCVs and LCVs leading to increased employability. This initiative, for the next three years (2012-15), will work closely with interested dealers, transporters, fleet owners and other channel partners of Tata Motors to facilitate absorption of these youth wherever possible.
Tata Motors Limited (TML) is the leading automobile company in India and has aggressive growth plans for the future. This growth is likely to pose several challenges. The industry foresees shortage of experienced, licensed drivers to operate these vehicles and Tata Motors rolled out this initiative to create training and skilling capacities that will meet this shortfall in partnership with other organizations and help create respectable employment opportunities for the youth.
G.S. Uppal, Head, Corporate Sustainability, TSL, says, “We are happy to sign an MOU with Laurus Edutech and in the first year of operations, we will be setting up three centres across India. Laurus Edutech would skill several candidates who are under privileged and we are confident that this relationship will lead to immense benefit in creating several skilled resources and provide them with employment opportunities.” The training centres would come up at Chennai, Bengaluru and Hyderabad.
Kulkarni, AGM – Corporate Sustainability, TSL, adds, “This partnership with Laurus Edutech will enable the centres to create awareness on driving as a career for the youth and offer highly impactful programs making driver skill training affordable preferred skill program for those at the bottom end strata of the pyramid.”
Srinivas Rao Cheedella, Managing Director, Laurus Edutech shares, “We look forward to working with Tata Motors who are the leaders in automotive industry. Laurus Edutech, under the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) mandate, is initiating the program wherein TML is contributing to the technical know-how and Laurus Edutech will setup and operate the centres.” He further adds, “The skilled driver resource pool would be made available to the interested supply chain partners and transporters of TML.”
