Two major cities of India, Mumbai and Delhi, are expected to highest rise in demand for water among the world’s cities between 2010 and 2025, reports said citing a note by the McKinsey Global Institute on Thursday.
Municipal water demand in large cities is expected to rise by almost 80 billion cubic meters, which is 40% above today’s urban global level, the report said.
Meeting rising demand will require investments in water supply and wastewater treatment of about $480 billion by 2025, with about $200 billion of that spending centered on cities in emerging markets, McKinsey said.
