Neyveli Lignite trips after muted Q2 bottom line growth

Neyveli Lignite Corporation lost 3.17% to Rs 79.50 at 10:20 IST on BSE after net profit rose just 1.7% to Rs 278.35 crore on 9% growth in net sales to Rs 1158.83 crore in Q2 September 2011 over Q2 September 2010.

The company declared the results after market hours on Wednesday, 9 November 2011.

Meanwhile, the BSE Sensex was down 150.98 points, or 0.87% to 17,211.12.

On BSE, 10,000 shares were traded in the counter as against average daily volume of 30,493 shares in the past one quarter.

The stock hit a high of Rs 81.70 and a low of Rs 79.20 so far during the day. The stock had hit a 52-week low of Rs 73.50 on 10 October 2011. The stock had hit a 52-week high of Rs 166.90 on 9 November 2010.

The stock had underperformed the market over the past one month till 9 November 2011, rising 6.9% compared with the Sensex's 6.96% return. The scrip had also underperformed the market in past one quarter, declining 3.81% as against 2.99% gain in the Sensex.

The large-cap state-run lignite-based power producer has an equity capital of Rs 1677.71 crore. Face value per share is Rs 10.

Neyveli Lignite Corporation's principal activities are exploration of lignite mines and power generation. The company owns three lignite mines and two thermal power stations in Neyveli and Cuddalore district in the state of Tamil Nadu. It generates power by using lignite as fuel.
