US President Barack Obama has reportedly asked Timothy Geithner to stay on as U.S. Treasury secretary, a decision on which is expected soon.
According to reports, Geithner has not yet decided whether to depart but would likely come to a decision soon.
Obama and William Daley, the White House Chief of Staff have both encouraged Geithner to stay, reports added.
Reports quoted, Jay Carney, Obama’s spokesman as saying that, "He's obviously a key member of the economic team, his service has been extremely valuable to the president, to the administration, to the country," Carney told reporters.
Geithner had reportedly indicated he might leave once an increase in the U.S. debt limit was secured.
