Pratham conducts Career Competency Workshop in 65 schools

India Infoline News Service / 14:16 , Mar 15, 2010

Quality of student counseling and entrance preparation is the key focus area of these workshops

International Institute of Financial Markets (IIFM), Delhi recently conducted Career Competency Workshops in 65 odd schools in Delhi NCR through Pratham. Targeted at students at the plus two level, the purpose of these workshops is two fold - enable students to understand their aptitudes better and at the same time expose them to conventional and unconventional career options. Quality of student counseling and entrance preparation is the key focus area of these workshops.

Elaborating on the workshops,  Ankit Kapoor, Controller Operations, IIFM said, “I strongly believe that in today’s competitive world, the focus is more on practical application compared to academic knowledge. Consequently, specifically designed professional courses are increasingly becoming more sought after.”

“Unfortunately, there are many students who are still not aware of these options. The Career Competency Workshops are a step in this direction. The workshops help in building awareness and providing quality education to students at the plus two level.”

The workshop revealed some interesting findings like majority of the students, have an aptitude-interest mismatch. The most prominent reasons for this mismatch are parental influence, lack of awareness beyond the conventional regular courses, and peer pressure. These workshops administer psychometric tests to help students understand their personality traits, strengths and weaknesses and then accordingly zero in on a profession.

Detailed counseling covering, career prospects, leading institutes, entrance procedure, fee structure, etc is also given on the basis of an individual student’s aptitude. The workshop covered conventional courses like Engineering, Medical, Law, BBS, BBA , Mass Communication as well as  unconventional course like RJing , Photography, Stock Trading , Accessory Designing and Acturial Sciences .

The workshop has been validated and endorsed by senior school teachers, leading psychologists and consultants from prominent companies such as Deloitte, Google, McKinsey & Co, and E&Y
