Dr. Rana Kapoor appointed as President of Rutgers Alumni Club of South Asia

Dr. Rana Kapoor in his commitment to the club mission, shall be responsible for promoting Rutgers reputation through local initiatives that encourage networking, relationship building and community outreach efforts.

Dr. Rana Kapoor, Founder, Managing Director & CEO, YES BANK, has been appointed as President of the Rutgers Alumni Club of South Asia, part of Rutgers University. Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey, US, is a leading national public research university and the state’s pre-eminent, comprehensive public institution of higher education. 


The objective of this Club is to further raise the profile of the university, and focus on the growing opportunities and untapped potential in the education sector. Dr. Rana Kapoor in his commitment to the club mission, shall be responsible for promoting Rutgers reputation through local initiatives that encourage networking, relationship building and community outreach efforts. 


The Club, under Dr. Rana Kapoor’s leadership will undertake various initiatives towards encouraging networking, relationship building and community outreach efforts by organizing regional conclaves and interactive sessions, events and thought leadership workshops, and a quarterly newsletter with contributory articles. To help usher in the new club, a number of senior members of the Rutgers administration have traveled to India this month, including  David Finegold, Senior Vice President for Lifelong Learning and Strategic Growth, and Joanna Regulska, Vice President for International and Global Affairs.


Speaking on this key appointment, Dr. Rana Kapoor said, “It is my privilege and honour to be appointed as the President of the Rutgers Club of Asia. As an alumnus of Rutgers, it is a great opportunity for me to contribute back to my alma mater. My aim is to make this club an interactive platform for our young achievers to guide students and create new ideas and innovative business models across industries. I am confident that with the support of the faculty and guidance of Rutgers President Richard L. McCormick, we will be able to further contribute towards the cause of education.”


Dr. Rana Kapoor is well recognized as a distinguished leader in the Banking Sector, and a successful professional turned accomplished entrepreneur. YES BANK, which was founded by him in 2004, has in a short span of 7 years become the fourth largest private sector bank in India.


In September 2011, Dr. Rana Kapoor was honored with The Rutgers University Medal, the highest recognition the University bestows, in New Brunswick campus, USA. The Rutgers University Award recognizes individuals who have given distinguished service to the university, demonstrated great leadership, and made outstanding contributions in scholarship, public service, business, industry, athletics, or the arts. Previous winners include U.S. Senators Robert Menendez and Frank Lautenberg, and Albert Schatz, co- discoverer of streptomycin.
