Carlsberg expands India operations


Reinforcing its commitment to the India market, Carlsberg India Pvt. Ltd announced the acquisition of its sixth brewery in Dharuhera, Haryana and laid the foundation of its seventh brewery in Prakhand Bikram, District Patna, Bihar. 


Carlsberg currently has breweries in Himachal Pradesh, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, West Bengal and Andhra Pradesh. These recent developments will deliver compelling strategic benefits, making Carlsberg India Pvt. Ltd. one of the most formidable players in the market.


Acquisition of the brewery in Dharuhera, Haryana is an extremely important strategic decision which reaffirms Carlsberg’s commitment to the Indian market and making it more competitive in the Indian beer industry. The brewery has a current production capacity of 150 KHL, with the potential of further volume expansion to approx 500 KHL. 


The facility is strategically located 200 meters off the Delhi-Jaipur highway which would provide convenient access to various locations. The brewery will commence operations in the first quarter of 2013. Carlsberg India will be upgrading the brewery to international quality standards.


Bhoomi Pujan for the seventh Carlsberg India brewery in Bihar took place yesterday at Prakhand Bikram, District Patna. The construction of the state-of-art brewery in Bihar will be completed by end of fourth quarter of 2013 and will cater to the entire Bihar market and the surrounding states.  The brewery will have a start-up capacity of 0.5 Million HL (500KHL) and will also generate local employment. 


To further leverage its commitment to India, Carlsberg has procured technology largely sourced indigenously.  In addition, new technology is being used in a few areas like beer filtration and energy conservation for the efficient functioning of the brewery. All brands of Carlsberg India’s portfolio vis-à-vis Carlsberg, Carlsberg Elephant, Tuborg Green, Tuborg Strong and Palone 8 will be brewed in this facility.


On the expansion announcement, Soren Lauridsen, Managing Director, Carlsberg India said: “The acquisition of a brewery in Haryana and setting up of the district Patna brewery reaffirms Carlsberg’s commitment to India. Like all our breweries in India and overseas, Carlsberg India ensures production of high quality beer through stringent quality control. The ambition of Carlsberg India is to be the fastest growing beer company, by offering premium international quality brands to the Indian consumers.”


Carlsberg India commenced commercial operations in 2007 and in this short time has become the number 3 player in the Indian beer industry through its focus on innovation, quality and service. Today, Carlsberg India’s market share YTD September is 7 % (excluding Tamil Nadu).

Robert L. Bradshaw Intl airport appoints BMA as design consultants


Bobby Mukherji & Associates (BMA) have been appointed as the architect and interior design consultants for the development of a private air terminal at the St. Kitts (Caribbean) island’s Robert L. ITC bags Asian CSR Award


ITC has been conferred the AIM Asian CSR Award by the Asian Forum on Corporate Social Responsibility (AFCSR), in recognition of its meaningful contribution to the creation of sustainable livelihoods and fostering economic growth in rural communities in India. 


ITC won the award in the Governance and Society category for adopting the Triple-Bottom-Line model, which focuses on augmenting economic, social and environmental capital. 


ITC was also recognised for designing innovative social investment programmes that are integrated into its business models and support competitive value chains, encompassing the weaker sections of society. ITC's businesses and value chains support more than 5 million livelihoods. 


The awards event was held in Bangkok on October 26, 2012. Thailand’s Deputy Prime Minister and guest of honour, Kittiratt Na-Ranong, gave away the prizes to the winners.


“Recipients of the AIM Asian CSR Awards demonstrate leadership, sincerity, and commitment in incorporating ethical values, compliance with legal requirements, respect for individuals, involvement in communities, and protection of the environment into the way they do business,” said Professor Felipe B. Alfonso, conference director of AFCSR 2012. 


He added, ““It is our belief that CSR can only be truly sustainable when it is integrated into the company’s business model and is considered as fundamental to its business strategy, and we hope that through the Asian CSR Awards, we are providing the private sector across the region with examples of best practices.”

Johnson Tiles plans Retail consumer experience zones in TN


H&R Johnson (India) is planning to ramp-up its retail footprint in Tamil Nadu by establishing consumer experience zones across the State. These consumer experience zones will take the form of shop-in-shop retail with three key modules branded as Johnson Arena, Johnson Class and Johnson Xclusiv.


The company is setting up these consumer experience zones across the country with plans to set-up more than 300 experience zones over the next two to three years. Out of these nearly 150 will be set-up in South India. Tamil Nadu will account for nearly half of the planned stores in South. H & R Johnson (India) focuses on driving penetration in Tier 2 & 3 markets through its retail expansion.
