SC reserves judgement, refuses stay on Essar-Loop case at lower court

India Infoline News Service/ 17:39 , May 02, 2012

The bench will, however, decide on Wednesday whether the CBI court can continue hearing the matter till the judgment is delivered on the issue.

With the drama continuing over the 2G spectrum allocation scam, the Supreme Court, on Tuesday, reserved its judgment on the petitions filed by Essar Teleholdings and Loop Telecom, challenging the criminal proceedings initiated against them in the special CBI court.

Essar Group’s Anshuman Ruia and Ravi Ruia, and Loop Telecom’s Kiran Khaitan and her husband I.P. Khaitan will appear before the special court on Thursday for framing of charges and bail.

The allegation against Essar is that though it had substantial stake in Vodafone Essar, it set up Loop Telecom as a front company in violation of the existing norms to illegally obtain additional spectrum.

The bench will, however, decide on Wednesday whether the CBI court can continue hearing the matter till the judgment is delivered on the issue.
