“The extension is a welcome move from the Government to extend its support to affordable housing especially in Tier 2 & emerging cities. But in the long term, a more effective approach would be breaking away from a single national benchmark; instead map markets and implement different slabs to identify the right definition of affordable housing.
The subsidy for home loans in Metros & Tier 1 cities should be increased for houses up to Rs. 35 lakh from the current cap of Rs. 20 Lakh, given the rising property prices. Also there should be reduction in the interest rates for this asset class”
