Jet Airways leads gainers in 'A' group

Capital Market / 16:02 , Mar 02, 2010

Tata Motors, Jain Irrigation Systems, Fortis Healthcare and Opto Circuits are among the other gainers.

Jet Airways (India) soared 15% to Rs 463.55 on reports the airline plans to revive its Mumbai-Shanghai-San Francisco air service following a recovery in international air traffic. The stock topped the gainers in the BSE's 'A' group.

The airline had earlier withdrawn its long-haul flight due to economic downturn resulting into poor demand on this sector. The airline would also launch a flight to Johannesburg next month.

Jet Airways has seen a significant jump in traffic on its foreign routes and is currently managing a load factor of over 80% on several routes including the long-haul flight to Europe and North America. With the world economy rebounding in recent months, demand for air travel has significantly improved encouraging airlines to add capacity on their network

Jet Airways also plans to introduce Mumbai-Colombo flight. It already has a Chennai-Colombo service.

Tata Motors climbed 12.10% to Rs 797.10 after the company's total vehicle sales jumped 58% to 69,427 units in February 2010 over February 2009. The stock was the second biggest gainer in 'A' group.

Jain Irrigation Systems surged 9.78% to Rs 906.05. The stock was the third biggest gainer in 'A' group.

Fortis Healthcare moved up 8.75% to Rs 169.65. The stock was the fourth biggest gainer in 'A' group. The stock hit lifetime high of Rs 170.90 in intra-day trade today, 2 March 2010.

Opto Circuits advanced 7.72% to Rs 228.05. The stock was the fifth biggest gainer in 'A' group.
