In an exclusive interview to IIFL, RaviJagannathan, Managing Director & CEO, 3i Infotech Consumer Services Ltd, said E-filing amongstindividuals is showing a positive trend. Tax payers have realized theconvenience of preparing online and e-filing.
The Department of Income Tax statistics shows about over amillion individual e-filers last year. We, being a start up portal, have about200,000 subscribers using our portal www.taxsmile.com.
Speaking on the celebrations of 24th July, as an Annual ‘Income Tax Day’ starting 2010, he said that since it’s a special day celebrated by the Income Taxdepartment, we are coming out with a special pricing of Rs150 for e-filing onthis day. Besides, we are also offering Money tracking tools and Secured SMStools free for our taxsmile subscribers. We were the first to introduce Digital signature based efiling. A tax payer candigitally sign his Income Tax return and the acknowledgement is instant. Thereis no need to sign and send the ITRV.
When asked about what will be the triggers that will boostonline IT filing, he said that tax payers look at some benefits attached toe-filing. The major triggers will be speedier refund processing, electronicassessment and making some class of tax payers into the mandatory e-filingcategory.
Speaking on the challenges front he added that the major challenge today is to increase the adoption towards e-filing. Thepercentage of e-filing to the total filings remains small.
