Thapar University, Patiala, one of India’s top technical universities, has been ranked amongst the finest engineering colleges by leading magazines like India Today, Outlook and Career 360.

The survey conducted by India Today in partnership with AC Nielsen, Thapar University was ranked 17th amongst the top private engineering colleges in the country. The survey was carried out to determine the top education institutions offering arts, science, commerce, law, engineering and medicine in the country.
Outlook magazine’s independent survey with Marketing and Development Research Associates (MDRA) to rank top 50 engineering colleges including government and private colleges ranked Thapar University at a high 24th position. The survey was based on parameters such as selection process, academic excellence, infrastructure and placements. In yet another survey carried out by Careers 360 (supplement of Outlook Magazine), Thapar University was given a ranking of AAA+.
A survey by Career 360 (flagship magazine of Pathfinder Publishing Pvt. Ltd) rated the University AAA+. IITs; NITs and deemed universities across 24 states were surveyed for the ratings. Thapar University is the only University from Punjab to get an AAA+ rating.

Institutions were grouped into three major categories, based on their entrance examinations: the IIT-JEE institutions, AIEEE institutions and the state-level institutions. The private and deemed universities have been grouped separately. For rating of state-level engineering colleges, which form the bulk of the 3000-plus colleges in the country, the database provided by the departments of technical education, or formal committees such as the Admission Committee for Professional Courses, or higher education councils mandated by the state were looked into.

The India Today AC Nielsen team worked on a formula based on a perception score (from an opinion poll conducted among academic expects) and a factual score (from the factual data furnished by colleges) to determine the best undergraduate colleges in India.
