ONGC being a geographically widely spread organization, with ONGCians from different locations, socio – economic back ground and having varied dialects, it is important to connect them across the country through a common platform. Knowledge management will connect people with knowledge. Gyanoydan the formal Knowledge Management programme of ONGC aspires to achieve:
Help in retaining and augmenting the organizational knowledge so as to maintain competitive market advantage
Increased productivity
Reduced Cost, time and effort
Improved Quality
This project has beenconceptualizedby IIM Ahmedabad and Infosys, consultants for the project will ensure expertise transfer. ONGC is aknowledge intensive organization, there is a need to capture and harness the knowledge present in our workforce. After some deliberations, ONGCdecided to create an independent platformfor knowledge management, whichhas today culminated in launching of this knowledge management portal.
In the existing system, sharing of knowledge is through informal interaction with one another. It is also known that people are much more willing to share their ideas and solutions to others than to put them in a database. With the implementation of Gyanodyan, there will be a system to share the entire thought process of individuals or teams as a result facilitate sharing of experiential knowledge. The entire exercise of this project is being carried out with the support of Infosys who have evolved a remarkable system to capture and store the knowledge.
In the first phase, the scope of the Gyanodyan project includes its implementation at five ONGC KM units viz., in one basin (western offshore Basin), one Asset (Ahmedabad Asset), one Institute (IRS, Ahmedabad) and two pan organizational services (one technical services-well logging and one non technical service - MM) of ONGC. With its launch today, Gyanodyan has been kick started in the Well Logging Services and the Western Offshore Basin. In subsequent phases, it is proposed to be rolled out in 32 more units each having a set up of a 5 member team comprising of 1 HR, 1 IT and 3 Technical personnel. As in the next few years a large number of senior ONGCians would be superannuating, it is of prime importance that their experiences and field knowledge be captured.
Gyanodyan is an initiative to change mindsets and inculcate a work culture where information flow is voluntary and can propel the organization towards higher success levels. It strives to achieve increase in the explicit as well as tacit knowledge and is based on motivating employees through recognitions and rewards.
