Themis Medicare moves north as CEO hikes stake

Themis Medicare gained 1.77% to Rs 192.95 at 15:30 IST on BSE, after the company said one of the promoters hiked stake in the firm.

The company made this announcement during trading hours today, 5 March 2010.

Meanwhile, the BSE Sensex was up 16.59 points, or 0.10% to 16,988.29.

On BSE, 5,949 shares were traded in the counter as against an average daily volume of 2,728 shares in the past one quarter.

The stock hit a high of Rs 195 and a low of Rs 188.50 so far during the day. The stock had hit a 52-week high of Rs 203.80 on 11 January 2010 and 52-week low of Rs 49 on 6 March 2009.

The small-cap stock had outperformed the market over the past one month till 4 March 2010, rising 7.03% as compared to the Sensex's return of 4.60%. It had also outperformed the market in the past one quarter, gaining 21.38% as compared to the Sensex's decline of 0.76%.

The company's equity capital is Rs 8.05. Face value per share is Rs 10.

The current price of Rs 192.95 discounts the company's Q3 December 2009 annualized EPS of Rs 24.75, by a PE multiple of 7.80.

Dinesh Shantilal Patel, managing director & chief executive officer (CEO) and also a promoter of the company, has hiked his stake to 8.06% from 5.06% after acquiring more than 2.41 lakh shares representing 3% of the equity capital of the company through inter-se-transfer from open market on 4 March 2010. Increase of stake in a company by promoters helps bolster investor confidence.

The total promoter shareholding in the company is 69.65% (as on 31 December 2009).

Themis Medicare reported net profit of Rs 4.98 crore in Q3 December 2009 compared to net loss of Rs 6.55 crore in Q3 December 2008. Net sales rose 25.7% to Rs 47.99 crore in Q3 December 2009 over Q3 December 2008.

The company is engaged in manufacturing and selling pharmaceutical products. The group's products are used in therapeutic areas like antituberculosis, antimalarials, cardiology, pain management, anti-infectives, haematinics, Health and Nutrition. It also engaged in co-marketing its research-based formulations with other pharmaceutical companies in India and abroad.
