‘Whatever it takes’ comments from European Central Bank chief Mario Draghi recently had brought in optimism. With no promises to make or keep and lack of even commitment on action, the ECB has disappointed markets world over.

The European Central Bank (ECB) has kept the main eurozone interest rate at a record low of 0.75%. A further intensification of financial market tensions has the potential to affect the balance of risks for both growth and inflation on the downside, says Draghi.

The opening is set to be in the red as our indices closely track the fallen global counterparts. With no concrete move to deal with the euro zone debt crisis. Asian markets are in the red. Same was the case with the US indices.

The number of Americans filing new claims for jobless benefits increased and manufacturers suffered an unexpected drop in orders in June. Increased monetary stimulus is being sought to get the US economy out of a soft patch.

The dollar rose against the euro and the British pound but fell versus the Japanese yen.
