When many brokers defaulted on payments to clients, IIFL stood out. "That gave confidence to investors and they came back to us," recalls Venkataraman. But in a year or so, it debuted on the stock exchange with its IPO subscribed 7.34 times. "It was an unbelievable steroid. I never expected this kind of response."
