HUL Q1FY17 standalone net profit rises 5% yoy to Rs. 1174 crore

The company’s standalone revenue stood at Rs 8218.18 crore, rising 5.27% qoq and 3.62% yoy.

Hindustan Unilver, the country's largest consumer packaged goods company by sales, reported standalone net profit of Rs. 1173.90 crore for the quarter, up 5.42% qoq and 9.80% yoy.The company’s standalone revenue stood at Rs.8128.18 crore, expanding 5.27% qoq and 3.62% yoy.

Its standalone core operating profit of Rs 1635.89 crore for the quarter, clocked growth of 11.26% qoq and 8.19% yoy. Operating profit margin for the current quarter at 20.13% expanded by 109 bps qoq and 86 bps yoy.

HUL Q1: Volume growth disappoints,estimates missed

HUL’s net revenue grew 5.27% at Rs 8128.18, lower than IIFL estimates of Rs. 9,061.90 crore mainly due to volume growth at 4% being lower than expected at 4.5-5.5%.On account of disappointing volume growththe net profit also came in much lower at Rs 1173.90 crore against IIFL estimates of Rs 1283.50. However, some respite did come on account of gains of exceptional item of Rs 70.77 crore (write back of provision of Rs 115 crore for employee benefit).

Management Comments:

Commenting on the performance of the company Harish Manwani, Chairman of HUL said, "In slow market conditions, the business is tracking ahead of the market with sustained margin improvement. We continue to make progress on our priorities of strengthening the core of our business whilst driving operational efficiencies. While the near term growth is likely to remain muted, we are optimistic for the medium term & remain focussed on driving competitive & profitable growth."
Stock Commentary:

Hindustan Unilever Ltd ended at Rs. 920.45, down by Rs. 19.15 or 2.04% from its previous closing of Rs. 939.6 on the BSE.

The scrip opened at Rs. 945.15 and touched a high and low of Rs. 947 and Rs. 910.4 respectively. A total of 3359903(NSE+BSE) shares were traded on the counter. The current market cap of the company is Rs. 203352.52 crore.

The BSE group 'A' stock of face value Rs. 1 touched a 52 week high of Rs. 949 on 15-Jul-2016 and a 52 week low of Rs. 765.35 on 27-Jan-2016. Last one week high and low of the scrip stood at Rs. 949 and Rs. 914 respectively.

The promoters holding in the company stood at 67.21 % while Institutions and Non-Institutions held 19 % and 13.79 % respectively.

The stock traded above its 50 DMA.
