With the addition of Guwahati, Bhubaneswar, Kochi, Coimbatore and Ludhiana, Ola Share - the country’s largest shared transportation platform - is now present in 15 cities. The unprecedented success of the category has been facilitated by innovative technology solutions aimed at benefiting customers and driver-partners alike.
Raghuvesh Sarup, CMO & Head of Categories at Ola said, “We are thrilled to bring Ola Share - India’s most pocket friendly and decongestion friendly ride-sharing service to 5 new cities. With Ola Share, our goal is to help cities reduce on-road congestion and unhealthy traffic jams, by encouraging more and more commuters to opt for shared rides. Raghuvesh further added, “Shared Mobility is the future of transportation in India and Ola Share has enabled citizens to share their rides and pay only a fraction of the actual trip cost while contributing towards reduction in vehicular pollution and congestion in their city. Also, with Ola Share, the same convenience of a regular cab ride at a much lower fare means access to mobility for many more commuters, furthering our mission of building mobility for a billion people.”
Ola Share has been specially designed to enable citizens to ride together and contribute to reduction in pollution and congestion in their city. In the last 8-10 months, Ola Share has been able to save upwards of 48 lakh kilograms of carbon emissions along with over 20 lakh litres of fuel. Launched in October 2015, Ola Share has received tremendous acceptance from both customers and driver partners.
How does Ola Share work?
Ola Share appears on the Ola app as a separate category. On sharing the drop location, the Ola app uses advanced algorithms to match users, looking for a cab on the same route, in real time. When additional users en-route are identified, the driver’s device gets an alert with navigation to their pickup location within minutes, to join the ride. Upto 3 people can share a cab together in Ola Share.
Ola Share, social ridesharing platform
With Ola Share, colleagues from a workplace or friends from a college can come together to share rides amongst themselves. A user can join multiple groups or simply choose to share a ride with anyone. As soon as users request a Share ride on the Ola app, they are matched with other users from their groups along their way. On the other hand, driver-partners get instant access to increased revenue of up to 50%, through continuous fulfilment of booking requests.
