Vodafone makes Rs 47,700 crore-capital infusion into its India unit
An overseas investment of a whopping Rs 47,700 crore has been poured into the India operations of VodafoneGroup Plc by the company, reducing the unit's debt by half. The move is aimed at bringing the same into focus for the upcoming spectrum auction as also to fortify their market share, with the entry of Reliance Jio Infocomm, says an ET report. The capital which has been pumped in, entails converting loans to shares in the first half of the fiscal in Vodafone. It is the largestforeign direct investment (FDI) in India in rupee terms, exceeding BP's $7.2-billion purchase of a stake in Reliance Industries, as per the report. The move will enable Vodafone India to continue its investments in spectrum and expansion of networks across various technology layers", as per Chief Executive, Sunil Sood, said the report. Read More
Bharti Airtel launches 90-day Free Data Pack for 4G customers
Bharti Airtel has launched special 4G data pack that offers free data for 90 days, as per media report. The telecom company said that the90 days pack is available for Rs.1,495 for existing users and new users will be able to avail it through first recharge of Rs.1,494. Ajai Puri, Director - Operations (India & South Asia), Bharti Airtel reportedly said, "Customers with 4G handsets generally consume large amounts of data and this proposition is specifically aimed at them." The pack is currently available in Delhi and will be launched across other circles over the next few days.
GTL Infra Board and corporate debt restructuring lenders agree to adopt and implement strategic debt restructuring scheme
GTL Infrastructure Ltd has informed BSE that the company is a part of the Global Group (being Global Holding Corporation Pvt. Ltd, GTL Limited, the Company and Chennai Network Infrastructure Limited (CNIL) and together with its affiliate company, CNIL, owns and operates an independent telecom tower network, with over 27,000 towers and over 45,000 tenancies pan India. The company has invested Rs.1,800 crores in CNIL. In 2011, the Company had undergone a Corporate Debt Restructuring ("CDR") program based on which the lenders of the Company had restructured the outstanding debt obligations in line with the then applicable forecasts and revenue projections. RJIL welcomes Airtel gesture; but 2 crore calls fail daily as Airtel dilly dallies on adequate PoIs to Jio
Reliance Jio Infocomm Limited (“RJIL”) welcomes the decision of Bharti Airtel Limited (“Airtel”) of providing more points of interconnection (“PoI”) to it, as was communicated in the bilateral discussions between the two companies. However, the quantum of PoIs proposed to be released by Airtel is substantially less than the requirement estimated based on transparent workings shared with Airtel. Based on the current traffic flow between the two networks, the proposed augmentation by Airtel would still only suffice for less than one-fourth of the required interconnection capacity. Read More
No call failure for Jio to Jio HD calls on Jio Network
The statements from Airtel are misleading and unfortunate in the context of the severe Quality of Service issues being faced by the Indian customers. While there are over two crore call failures every day between the two networks, there are no incidents of call failures within the Jio network. We encourage all customers to make Jio to Jio calls to experience HD quality voice services without any disruptions whatsoever. We also invite independent third parties such as TERM (DOT) to inspect and confirm that there are zero call failures on Jio network. In fact, Jio customers should encourage the receiving party to switch to the Jio network at the earliest so that they do not suffer due to such anticompetitive practices being followed by the incumbent operators.
