Banglalink, a wholly owned subsidiary of Orascom Telecom and a leading operator in Bangladesh today announced that they have won mBillionth South Asia Award 2011 in the category m-Business and Commerce/Banking for its mWallet services, powered by Comviva’s mobiquityTM mobile financial solution. Comviva has provided its mobiquity™ mobile financial platform to empower Banglalink to offer integrated financial payment services, which allows customers to conduct a variety of transactions including international money transfer, railway ticketing and utility payments over the mobile.
The award was presented at a ceremony organized in New Delhi by its convener, Digital Empowerment Foundation, and sponsored by Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, Government of India.

mWallet works under a 'bank-led' model and the banks offer mobile wallet accounts to the remittance receivers through the Banglalink network. mWallet is the first international remittance service through mobile phone in the whole of South Asia. The service is already available at almost 2,000 Banglalink outlets throughout Bangladesh. Besides 14,000 retail outlets across the country are engaged in mobile based collection services.
The mBillionth Award honors excellence in mobile communications across South Asia spread over 11 core categories. In order to make the content and services deliverable through mobile as a medium and means, Digital Empowerment Foundation formally launched the mBillionth Award South Asia in the year 2010.
