Car sales in India down 12.45% in January: SIAM

Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) reported that motorcycle sales in last month grew by 7.45% to 8,86,527 units from 8,25,050 units in the same month previous year.

Car sales in India declined by 12.45% to 1,73,420 units in January this year compared to 1,98,079 units in the same month of 2012, SIAM reportedly said.

Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) reported that motorcycle sales in last month grew by 7.45% to 8,86,527 units from 8,25,050 units in the same month previous year.

Total two-wheeler sales in January 2013 increased by 8.46% to 12,06,937 units from 11,12,767 units in the same period of previous year, says SIAM.

New highs pass by; flat start

The outlook is a flat open. Global indices are up. The minutes from the Federal Reserve's July meeting indicate that the Fed is in no hurry to raise interest rates. The Dow added 0.35% while S&P was up 0.25%. Nasdaq ended marginally lower. Asian indices are mixed with Nikkei up almost a percent while Hong Kong's Hang Seng index is lower. South Korea's Kospi index and China's Shanghai index are also in the red.
