Legendary sitar maestro Pandit Ravi Shankar died today in San Diego at the age of 92.
On 6 December 2012, Shankar was admitted to Scripps Memorial Hospital in La Jolla, San Diego after complaining of breathing difficulties.
Ravi Shankar often referred to by the title Pandit, was an Indian musician and composer who played the plucked-string instrument known as the sitar.
According to the The Ravi Shankar Foundation, Shankar had suffered from upper-respiratory and heart issues over the past year and underwent heart-valve replacement surgery on 6 December 2012.
His death elicited reactions from the Indian political and cultural spheres.
