At 11:23am (IST), the BSE Sensex was trading at 19683, up 16 points over the previous close. It had earlier touched a day's high of 19783 and a day's low of 19669. It opened at 19728.
The NSE Nifty was quoting at 5,975, up 4 points over the previous close. It earlier touched a days high of 6,005 and a days low of 5969. It opened at 5,998.
The BSE Small-Cap index and BSE Mid- Cap index was trading down 0.06% and 0.07%.
RIL, Infosys, Wipro, NTPC, HDFC, SBI, ICICI Bank, Tata Steel, Hero MotoCorp, ONGC, Dr Reddys Lab, Bajaj Auto, Tata Motors, Hindalco Inds, Mahindra & Mahindra are among gainers in Sensex and Nifty.
TCS, Sun Pharma, Bharti Airtel, BHEL,HUL are among losers in Sensex and Nifty.
PSU, Metal, Oil and Gas, IT, Teck, Bankex, Metal, are the gainers.
Consumer Durables, Healthcare, Power, Realty, Capital Goods indices are the losers.
Results watch: Alpha Hitech, Cera Sanitary, MidValley Entertainment, Sintex Inds.
Trends in FII flows: The FIIs were net buyers of Rs8.48bn in the cash segment on Wednesday, while the domestic institutional investors (DIIs) were net sellers of Rs5.18bn, as per the provisional figures released by the NSE.
The foreign funds were net buyers of Rs1.72bn in the cash segment on Tuesday, according to the SEBI figures.
On Wall Street, The Dow Jones gained 61.66 points, or 0.46 per cent, to 13,390.51, while Standard & Poor's 500 Index rose 3.87 points, or 0.27 per cent, to 1,461.02.
The Nasdaq Composite Index gained 14.00 points, or 0.45%, to 3,105.81.
Asian shares rose ahead of the China's trade data and the European Central Bank meeting later in the day.
