Smoking hot! ITC leads tobacco pack despite excise duty smog in budget

A strong rally in the stocks of tobacco product manufacturers and cigarette makers led by ITC saw these stocks scaling highs during the session, notwithstanding the Finance Minister Arun Jaitley’s proposal to hike excise duty on tobacco products by 10-15% in the Union Budget 2016.

Yesterday also, the tobacco shares had recovered significantly after the early jolts.

ITC Ltd ended at Rs. 325.1, up by Rs. 29.3 or 9.91% from its previous closing of Rs. 295.8 on the BSE. The scrip opened at Rs. 305 and touched a high and low of Rs. 327 and Rs. 302 respectively. A total of 45845974(NSE+BSE) shares were traded on the counter.

Godfrey Phillips India Ltd ended at Rs. 1182, up by Rs. 106.1 or 9.86% from its previous closing of Rs. 1075.9 on the BSE. The scrip opened at Rs. 1082.5 and touched a high and low of Rs. 1191.75 and Rs. 1079 respectively. A total of 503279(NSE+BSE) shares were traded on the counter.

VST Industries Ltd ended at Rs. 1581.5, up by Rs. 46.5 or 3.03% from its previous closing of Rs. 1535 on the BSE. The scrip opened at Rs. 1523.5 and touched a high and low of Rs. 1635 and Rs. 1517.5 respectively. A total of 20075(NSE+BSE) shares were traded on the counter.

Kothari Products Ltd is currently trading at Rs. 163.4, up by Rs. 4.5 or 2.83% from its previous closing of Rs. 158.9 on the BSE. The scrip opened at Rs. 161.9 and has touched a high and low of Rs. 168 and Rs. 160 respectively. So far 14592(NSE+BSE) shares were traded on the counter.

Golden Tobacco Ltd is currently trading at Rs. 36.5, up by Rs. 1 or 2.82% from its previous closing of Rs. 35.5 on the BSE. The scrip opened at Rs. 37 and has touched a high and low of Rs. 37.2 and Rs. 34.95 respectively. So far 10064(NSE+BSE) shares were traded on the counter.
