Outlook
The outlook in the
short term looks pretty bleak. Crisis in Asia as well as the recent
devaluation of the rouble is expected to put pressure on the
aluminum prices in the domestic market. Moreover with no pick up in
the infrastructure activities in the domestic market, the demand
for the metal is expected to be subdued.
In the long term,
outlook for the white metal in India is bullish. An increase in the
number of potential applications for which aluminum could be used
is expected to spur demand for this metal in the future. The
electrical sector in the form of wire rods for transmission of
electricity is the biggest user. However with the increasing use of
aluminum in the automobile, packaging, consumer durable and
construction sectors, demand for aluminum is bound to increase.
This coupled with the fact that India is amongst the least cost
producers in the world, implies that longer term prospects for the
sector is very encouraging.
