Acetanilides This is an intermediate product, which finds its usage in photographic materials, rubber chemicals and isocynates. Most of the production is used for captive consumption. Only 40% is traded in the merchant markets. Manufacturing process Acetanilide is produced upon a reaction between aniline and acetic anhydride. It is obtained in the molten stage and then converted into flakes by a flaker. About 0.7 tons of aniline is used to produce 1 ton of Acetanilide. Markets Acetanilide is primarily used in the manufacture of sulpha drugs. The demand is dissipating due to the declining markets for sulpha drugs. This is used for the production of intermediates such as sulphone and acetyl chloride, which are used in the dyes market. The dyes sector contributes nearly 70%, while pharma sector notches up 30% of the total production. Outlook As a consequence to the dyes sector and the sulpha drug industry not doing well, the demand is not expected to remain robust. The capacity at present is to the tune of 19,000ton while the consumption is approximately10, 000ton.
