March 08, 2001 Polymers Sector Update - February 2001 Prices: In December 2000 International Prices of HDPE injection moulding grade decreased by US$23/ton to US$580-590/ton & that of blow moulding grade toUS$600-610/ton. Prices of imported HDPE were at US$615-625/ton. In the domestic market the manufacturers reduced the prices by RS600-4800/ton. International prices of LDPE declined by US$32/ton to US$660-670/ton in December 2000. In the domestic market IPCL, the sole manufacturer of LDPE reduced the prices by Rs6350/ton to Rs47, 200/ton. In December 2000 the International prices of Polypropylene (PP) decreased by US$23/ton to US$530-550/ton. On the same lines the domestic producers reduced the prices by Rs2300/ton. International prices of Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC) in December 2000 declined by US$37/ton to US$550-560/ton. In domestic market the manufacturers reduced the prices by RS4800/ton. In December 2000 international prices of General purpose Polystyrene (GPPS) declined by US$2/ton to US$720-740/ton & that of High impact Polystyrene (HIPS) by US$2/ton to US$7790-790/ton. Domestic manufacturers reduced the prices of (GPPS) by Rs4000/ton to Rs47, 200-53,000/ton, while that of HIPS by Rs4000/ton to Rs59000-64000/ton Production During November 2000 HDPE production declined by 32.4%yoy & that of LDPE declined by17.3%yoy. Cumulative HDPE production during April-November 2000 declined by 20.6%yoy as compared to growth of 5.8% in the previous period. LDPE production grew by 1% during April-November2000. PVC resins production increased by 2.7%yoy in November 2000 & cumulative production increased by 11.7%yoy during the period April November 2000. News Reliance industries in collaboration with Nova Chemicals, Swizerland is setting up a Rs6.2bn project in Surat for the manufacture of various grades of Polymers. In December 2000, the 85bn Gujarat Chemical Port Terminal Company at Dahej in Gujarat was commissioned .
