Ghaziabad based freelance artist and passionate traveller-Nishat Rehman’s entry was adjudged the winner of the campaign, winning the grand prize – a Hyundai Eon Magna Plus car. Entries from Heena Shah-Dedhi and Sandy Bangera were declared the first and second runner-up to claim the iPad 3 Mini and Motorola Moto G (2nd Gen) smartphone respectively.
Shashank Mehrotra, General Manager for BigRock India said, “A number of the entries for the campaign left us pleasantly surprised with their creativity and depiction of being desi. Nishat’s entry particularly impressed the jury as it stood out not only for what being desi meant to her but also for offering a kaleidoscopic view of our culturally infused country. Ultimately that is what we are trying to achieve with the .Desi domain and create a means through which an individual/organization can truly represent their local roots.”
Siddharth Ohri, COO and Founder for the .DESI registry said, “We were thrilled with the widespread participation from individuals, who were keen to showcase their desi roots. Nishat’s entry in particular was a fiery canvas depicting her travels across India, etched on her Scooty and backpack, thus presenting a visual that highlights her journey into the country heartland.” Siddharth Ohri further added “We wanted to make a bold statement about India being home to one of the largest online communities globally with the being .desi campaign. Our aim is to unite them with the .Desi extension that offers unlimited opportunities without restriction by geography."
As an extension to the campaign, BigRock will offer the .DESI domain extension to businesses who may be interested in effectively exploring this vast and often under-served market, at special prices starting INR. 499/year.
