In order to attract retail customers and provide better service to their existing customers, many life insurance companies in India are using social websites such as Facebook and Twitter, according to a media report.

Insurers believe that social media is the fastest medium to connect with their customers, the report added.

Currently, insurers provide services such as new products, product updates and instant responses to customers’ queries on these social websites.

Insurers are also planning to provide services like policy-related data and reminders on renewals through Facebook messages to policyholders.

Some insurers are already present on Facebook and are planning to use other social sites such as LinkedIn and YouTube.

Government-owned Life Insurance Corporation of India is also present on Orkut, Facebook and Twitter via its ‘LIC India Forever’ handle, the report further said.
