In the midst of intense volatility on Thursday, the rupee fell 32 paisas to settle at an all-time low of 81.94 (provisional) versus the US dollar. The local currency was also negatively impacted by stable crude oil prices. The local currency in the interbank foreign exchange market started off strongly at 81.52 before giving back all of its gains to conclude at an all-time low of 81.94 versus the US dollar, a loss of 32 paise from its previous level.

The local unit's intraday high and low values for the dollar were 81.51 and 81.94 respectively during the day. To conclude the day on Tuesday at 81.62 versus the US dollar, the rupee gained 20 paise. Due to Dussehra, the foreign exchange market was shut down on Wednesday. Brent crude futures, the international benchmark for crude oil, decreased by 0.8% to USD 93.30 a barrel.
