Centre invites public comments for proposed mandatory provision of co-driver airbags

As per the proposal, the ministry plans to implement this move starting April 01, 2021, for new models.

The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has invited public comments for proposed mandatory provision of co-driver airbags.

To boost passenger safety, the ministry has proposed to make it mandatory that an airbag be provided for the passenger seated on the front seat of a vehicle, next to the driver.

As per the proposal, the ministry plans to implement this move starting April 01, 2021, for new models.

While the move is proposed to be in effect from June 01, 2021, for existing models.
